What? How? And for Whom? Research in Art Education | 2023

For and with whom? Participatory and collaborative aspects in the design and research of digital art education.

How does digital education create participation? And can participation processes also be anchored in the research process in a targeted manner? In her lecture, Dr. phil. Anja Gebauer will examine the most important findings of her dissertation "The dynamics of digital art education as a lens. Design, empirical research and theory formation in art and museum education" and, in particular, how children co-creatively helped to design a mobile application for art education. In addition, other collaborative aspects and (unconscious) influences on the research process will be taken into account. The topic will be how to question one's own ideas together with others and thus take on reflective research roles. The event will provide space for gaps that often concern essential thoughts on the fringes of the research project - in order to ultimately think about for and with whom we want to work and research in art education in the digital society.

In the online event series "What? How? And for Whom? Research in Art Education", researchers from the field of art(s) education and related disciplines report on their projects. Content presentations with insights into the individual research processes open up a digital space for exchange and discussion between the speakers, current doctoral students and other interested parties. As in the past two years, the focus of the 2023 events will be on recently completed or nearing completion art education doctoral projects. In addition, more advanced researchers, individuals or groups, will now also report on their current research projects in art(s) education and related areas. Participation in the events is free of charge and possible at any time, even at short notice.

The WHW series is organized by the PhD program in Art & Design Teaching. The program is a cooperation between the Department of Cultural Analysis and Mediation with the Zurich University of Teacher Education, the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart and the Freiburg University of Teacher Education and is sponsored by swissuniversities.
